New Release Alert. A Grave Situation is just 99 cents!

About the book: Always up for adventure, Zoey and Claire Kane visit a castle hosted by a self-proclaimed Count Dracula. Even better, next door lies a cemetery haunted for a hundred years by Isobel Myer, a heartbroken bride who floats through the tombstones at night in a tattered wedding dress. But soon cats are found buried in a grave, drained of their blood. Fear also shakes the community when a young woman is discovered with a stake in her heart. The Kanes are determined to solve the mystery, even if that means stalking loonies, goonies, and things that go suck in the night

New Release Alert: Legend of The Lost, a Z&C Mystery

It feels like forever since I've released a book, even though To Date a Werewolf came out in February. As some of you may know, I write mysteries with my mother. Like my teen fiction, my mysteries are very humorous, very lighthearted. Last night I hit the "Publish" button at Amazon.com for Legend of The Lost. This may be my favorite mystery of ours. It kicks off right in the middle of a private plane crash-landing, so the ladies have to make a jump for it into the Arizona desert.

ABOUT THE BOOK:

It was supposed to be a relaxing vacation to California. Instead, Zoey and Claire take an unexpected detour when their private plane crash-lands into Arizona’s mysterious Superstition Mountains. Taken in by a dude ranch where everyone and their grandma is obsessed with the fortune of The Lost Dutchman’s Mine, romance with handsome, ropin’ cowboys becomes a top priority. The last thing on their minds is murder. But as Daniel Walks-With-Secrets, heartthrob captain of the sheriff’s department, warns, “Greed is a recipe for bloody misfortune.” With a stubborn resilience that only a mother-daughter relationship can summon, the ladies are fixin’ to find the culprits… and the treasure.

What I'm Up To... An Author Blog Hop

I've been tagged by Jennifer Lynn Alvarez, author of the middle-grade Guardian Herd Series, starring flying horses (How cool is that?)! Click her name to see her answers to these same questions.

What are you working on? I'm working on Legend of The Lost, a Zoey and Claire Mystery, Book #4. I have twelve more pages to polish up before it goes to the line editor! In case you didn't know, I also write under Claire Kane. There are three mysteries out so far: The Riddles of Hillgate, Cruise to Murder, and Hexes and X's. Although the books star grown adults, a mother and daughter, the stories are clean enough for any age to enjoy. If you enjoy my Molly Snow stories, then you may enjoy my Claire Kane mysteries, since they have some similar silliness.

I'm simultaneously working on To Catch a Fox, a third story in my shifter series... although I'm still in the first chapter. I have a cover made, though, and that's always good for motivation! I'm very excited to see how this series will do once advertised.

How does your work differ from others in its genre? I started writing paranormal stories a long, long time ago. I haven't really been a reader of paranormal stories, either, so perhaps this is a reason why quite a few reviewers say my stories are fresh. I don't feel obligated to go by classic rules of the genre. For instance, my zombies can look good for a long time, because of a preservative released into their body once turned. My werewolves can cure zombies of their condition. The black cat in BeSwitched can switch bodies with lonely souls. So whatever I think sounds fun, I do.

Why do you write what you write? I write what excites me. I like to think of my writing as a business, but there is one thing I will never do to get ahead--write something that's not really me. I know there are other genres that could make me so much more money, but I have to stay true to my interests. My stories have plenty of comedy. I just can't help myself when it comes to humor--it has to be an integral part of my storytelling or I won't have fun in the process.

Describe your writing process? It depends on the story, but I try and have some sort of outline before I start. The least I should know is what's my main characters' greatest desire and greatest weakness? Next, what's the obstacle holding them back from reaching their goal, and what's the worst thing that can happen to them--some sort of moment of crisis.

For example, in Head Over Halo, an angel, Persephone, has two great desires--to learn to sing, and to be with a mortal guy, who happens to be a singer. Her greatest obstacles are, she's an angel with a voice that destroys things, and since she's an not mortal it's against the laws of heaven to be with one. You'll have to read the story to find out her moment of crisis, but the way it unfolds is a lot of fun.

Featured Author Brandon Hale. Day Soldiers is Free.

Today's blog post is about author Brandon Hale and his Day Soldiers series. Day Soldiers is geared toward older teens and twenty-somethings, and is PG-13. The stories star non-romantic, very scary vampires and werewolves. It has about two hundred reviews on Amazon, with an average rating of 4.4 stars! The first book in the series is FREE, so be sure to click the Amazon link below to download it to your Kindle.

ABOUT:

Eighteen year old Lily Baxter always knew the Day Soldiers would be a major part of her life. She had been preparing for it since she was eight. She was ready to go to war. The one thing she wasn't prepared for was the day the war came to her.

Part horror, part comedy, part adventure, Day Soldiers will take you on an exciting ride through a world where monsters are monsters and the only thing they fall in love with is the taste of human blood.

The author, Brandon Hale, is also a good friend of mine. He's always been very professional yet playful in his dealings with others. Recently he was diagnosed with colon cancer, and it's shaken up his and his wife's world. He's dealt with the news with a lot of strength and grace, and has retained his wonderful sense of humor. Check out this recent news on his blog: http://booksfromhale.com/update-on-brandon-hales-cancer-situation/

Here is a page dedicated to helping fund his colon surgeries and living expenses during this time in his life: http://www.gofundme.com/DonateToBrandonHale

Don't forget to check out the first book in his series for free! :)

New Release! To Date a Werewolf

I'm excited to announce my latest release! To Date a Werewolf is the spin-off novel of To Kiss a Werewolf, starring one of the supporting characters, Maggie. Let me tell you, it was a ball writing from her perspective. She is so spunky and sarcastic and just plain fun. I would say it's a YA book, but a bit on the older side of the spectrum. Still, there's no foul language or sex.

About the book:
Maggie’s young, flirty and extra curvy, but she has a teensy-weensy problem. She’s a zombie. Costly manicures and wigs won’t always hide the fact that she’s decomposing at an increasingly rapid rate, either. She needs a cure. Like now. And a werewolf’s true-love kiss is the only solution. The trouble? Getting a first date, when zombies are werewolves’ sworn enemies.

It's currently $3.99

A New Title and Cover. Revamping a Book's Look.

Sometimes you just gotta revamp a book's look.

^^This is the new look for FALLEN ANGEL, now titled HEAD OVER HALO. Fallen Angel was getting a lot of returns through Amazon.com, meaning people would purchase it, then get a refund. I was stumped as to why this was so, since this is one of my books I'm most proud of. The plot flowed for me, it was professionally edited, beta readers gave me really great feedback, and I just knew I'd find readers who'd really relate to the adorable main character Persephone and her mishaps.

But sales were saying the opposite.

So I went to my online writers group, and was assured the story was great, but the title and the cover picture wasn't as fitting as it could be. People who were viewing Fallen Angel were also viewing erotica, and so that was telling. People probably thought it was about a sweet girl gone bad. So, my goal was to give the story a new name and cover, which would also go well with my branding.

And this is what I came up with... (Technically, I have to thank my writer friend K.S. Haigwood for the title. Thanks!)

Here's the OLD cover to compare:

What do you think of the new one??

It will showcase stories from a variety of genres from big-name authors, such as Colleen Hoover, Saxon Andrew and more. My own short story, MIDNIGHT SNACK, which is a modified chapter from an upcoming release, is included.
